Education is the number one priority issue that we have to deal with now. We can never fully understand the realities of our time and the great challenges that we are confronted with without a proper education. An education that prepares us for the tasks and for the needs of a continuously changing world. A world that makes it necessary to be open- minded towards change and to constantly adopt to new circumstances. When we talk about education, we have the common understanding that we talk about educating our children at the age of 6 to 16 years old. Now let's take a look at the current education of our children on a global scale. There are still over 100 million children in our world today that don't have access to education at all. So their chances to participate in meaningful ways in a globalized world are very slim. Many of these kids are vulnerable for the false promises of radical groups and their inhumane views. They are raised in fear of the world. Anything that lays outside of their bounded perception is met by them with hate and violence. Then there are a couple of hundred millions of children that only have limited access to education. These children have to cope with overcrowded classes, poorly qualified teachers and ill-equiped schools. Most of them are destined to become unskilled labour and they will live fairly above or below subsistence level. Then we have the fortunate children of the affluent society that do enjoy the advantage of education. These kids are burdened with knowledge ninety-five percent of which they don't really need, and therefore they will forget. The industry criticizes that these children of the first world are not properly prepared for the needs of a global market and that too much time is lost in re-educating them. So we come to the conclusion that there is a inequality among our children in our world today. They are undertaught, overtaught, mistaught, or not taught at all. We have a global economy and a global marketplace that is in need of highly qualified and highly motivated skilled labour. However, we don't have a global education system that can fulfil such need. The education system of our time is suffering from fragmentation. There are different school systems on the national, even on the regional and local level. There still exists no global standard curriculum. This needs to change now or we will not be able to guarantee equal opportunities for our children. We have to revamp our old-fashioned education. The time has come to form a global platform that brings forward a global education board with the worlds brightest and best to lay the foundation for a global education system. A system that will create equal conditions for a basic education for every child on this planet. ![]() ![]() ![]()

One of the first important steps to take is to draw up a basic global curriculum that will be taught by highly qualified, motivated and well-paid teachers. These teachers will continuously complete their knowledge via online courses in realtime. They will be assisted by psychologists and therapists that will concentrate on children with learning or behaviour disorders. However, we have to go further and lower the age of entry to 2 years or even younger. Why so young, you might ask? What about the parents, who want to raise their children? Everyone agrees that the most important person that a child relates to are its parents. But do they really have time? The American Bureau of Labor Statistics published in 2007 a Time Use Survey that reported how the average American spends his time. It showed that adults living in households with children under 6 years spent only 2 hours with their children a day. Adults that were living in households with children between 6 and 17 spent a sad 47 minutes with their children. You can imagine on what these unattended kids use their free time for. There hundreds of medical reports that warn about the negative effects of too much consumption of television, internet and video games. Let us give you one example. According to the Swedish National Institute of Public Health Swedish children watch slightly less than 10,000 hours television during their childhood. That is almost the same amount of time that they spent in compulsory schooling. What a waste of valuable time. So the teacher is the second most important caregiver right after the parent, but he spends more than twice the time with the child. The teacher of our time would like to spent this time just teaching, but in reality he spends too much time changing the cultural and intellectual habits which the child acquires from its family and surrounding culture. He has to cope with children that don't even master the language he is teaching in. According to the British Department for Children, Schools and Families there are more and more schools in Britain that are struggling to cope with pupils whose first language is not English. They even present the majority of pupils in some schools. The British Teachers Union claims that educating a single non-English speaking pupil could cost more than € 35,000 a year. A education that starts as early as 2 years will help to prevent such costs in the future. The children that are raised with languages other than the national language are bright children. We have to get used to multi-cultural schools, because they represent the realities of a transnational global society. Children and teacher are urged to learn more than just one language. However, at the same time it is vital to teach the majority of the subject matter in a language that is understood all over the world. I think we need to understand that English is the most important language in the world and it is spoken almost everywhere. To compete on a global market you need to master the English language. Besides problems with verbal communication teachers have to cope with cultural differences among their pupils in school. Children from immigrants that live for the first or second generation in a country suffer from a lack of identification. They don't feel accepted in the country they are living in and prefer to socialize with children of the same or similar backround. Moreover, they can't even identify with the values and culture of their ancestors. This inner blank is a major cause among adolescents to develop a frustration and rebellion against society. These adolescents attract attention by using violence as an outlet for their inner rage. They also fall victim to the false promises of religious fanatics. So we need to ask ourselves if we need to change the moral values and adjust them to the realities of a interconnected global society. These adolescents don't identify themselves with national values anymore. So we need to raise them in the context of one world and one society. A society that shows that every child matters. A society that does not judge you for your origins, but that will judge you on what you will do in your life on behalf of a global community. This lack of identification is also common among the children of domestic families. Parents perhaps would like to spend more time with their children, but living costs have skyrocketed in recent years. So parents need to work a lot more to provide for the family. You also have to consider that the number of single raising parents have increased at an alarming pace. For them it is even more difficult to find time for their children after fulfilling their obligation as the sole provider. The traditional structure of family in society is fading away and is replaced by new structures. Structures that continuously change with time. A child may experience being raised by its parents for some time. Then his parents seperate and one parent becomes the sole provider. Again after some time this sole provider will take his child into a new relationship, perhaps a patchwork family. Many children can't cope with this changing situation and become disturbed in their development. Moreover, the typical phrase ''the child comes always first'' is not the ultimate goal for many parents anymore. To maintain or even raise the economic status has become very important. We live in a society where consumption of products has become a main factor in an adults life. According to the Statistics Canada the average woman in Canada spends twice as much time on shopping than on child care. So our children get less time from their parents and are crying out for attention. As a result of this negligence they are becoming overweight and suffer from obesity, they develop addiction of different kinds or they don't feel like doing anything at all. The radical decline of parental guidance in their life gives them a feeling of inner emptyness and they suffer from dehumanization and from desensitization. Our kids are loosing their inner center, because they lack love and attention. They don't feel human anymore. That's why they have piercing, branding, tattooing and cutting. It is the result of a psychic impoverishment. We need to remove this hazardous cultural environment. The time has come to educate them in order to give them guidance and opportunity so they can develop their full capacities and can participate in fully development in a global society. They need to be guided towards universal values and develop virtues such as honesty, trustworthiness, compassion, humility, courage, kindness and respect. Now how can we accomplish that? First of all, when we talk about our children, we refer to them as our future generation. We disagree with that statement. We strongly believe that our children are not our future, but our now generation. They can only make a difference in the future, when we show them that they matter to us now and that we are listening to them now. We can't educate them anymore in the context of answering questions right. We have to start to change the basic foundation of education. We agree that our children do need essential learning tools such as literacy, oral expression, numeracy, memory development and problem solving. But we have to help them to release their tremendous talents and support them to take chances in new ways of thinking, because that's what innovation is based on. They can never create an innovation when they are prepared to be wrong and when they think that there are limits. Creativity has no limits and should be never limited. Intelligence is diverse and it's dynamic. We need to encourage them to find solutions for our problems by giving them hope and courage. We have to rethink the fundamental principles on which we educate our children. We have to see our children for the hope they are and it is our task to educate their whole being so they can face the future that we are so afraid of. The very term future has to stand for hope and not for fear. Future has to stand for chances and possibilities. Education will not be limited to children anymore it will affect every citizen of the global society. The schools and universities of our time will be totally restructured. Schools will become what we call Global Community Learning Centers. The age of entry will be around two years of age. Infant school will have a significant part to play in the childs education. Many errors of home training will be corrected or even prevented. The child can then be prepared for a membership in a group of his own age and habits which will result in the membership of a global society. There will be parenting classes that support the parent to improve the parent-child relationship and help to prevent cases of violence against children, child abuse and child negligence. There will be a child-care center where teenagers will learn the importance of child-nurturing skills. There will be also a row of offices that will have counselors for social security, nutrition, crime awareness and home security, environmentally sustainable living and many more. There will be also a Senior Citizen Center that will narrow the gap between the generations. We need to learn from the ones that have lived their life. We have to make sure that this valuable knowledge and experience is not lost. There will be a great exchange of ideas and knowledge between the generations that will enrich the global society. They will help us to learn from our mistakes. The time has come also to honour and respect the older generation for the good things they have achieved for the common good of global society. The new global education system will help us to address the human, environmental, economic, social and safety-related changes which confront us. A global society will accept the responsibility to provide an education for each and every child to create and form global citizens that are knowledeable, that are highly qualified and specialized, with advanced skills and the ability to think in the context of one world and to communicate well. Every global citizen will develop a sense of self worth, a respect for Mother Nature, earth and its people, and a commitment to the pursuit of life-long learning. Education will become part of life. The main focus will remain on our kids of course, because they are the leadership of tomorrow. A new education system will give our children a store of general knowledge in broad outline. The next step will be to find out their interest and guide them from early on so they can choose a career path early in their school years, which should be not later than 6th grade. They will be encouraged and motivated to follow this career path. Then they will receive a thorough detailed and specialized training in the field they choose to be in. This training will be accompanied by traineeships, job-shadowing, volunteer service, school-based enterprise and paid work to gain experience and to establish relationships with their future employers. It will be a work-based learning that will prepare the students for the challenges they are likely to face in the changing workplace of a global market. We also have to change the role of universities. In most countries universities are seen as furthering national goals. In the future universities will be seen as furthering global goals. First of all they have to promote academic exchange and cooperation among themselves to increase scientific research and to find the solutions for the global challenges like climate change and the global energy crisis. They have to become efficient in terms of higher education. Funding will not primarily depend on tuition fees but more and more on corporate support that will guarantee equity and social justice by making a campus-based education available to talented students who cannot afford it. Universities will concentrate on training the best, most talented and the brightest students who will become tomorrows leaders. Each university will have their own startup program with its own budget to help talented students with ideas and visions to start a new company and to support them by improving their business concept. There will be some risk of course, but it will be outweighed by the high potential of return on investment. Just think about the success story of Google and Facebook. We have to take chances to create innovations that help us to change the world for the better. A global education will help us to develop a global understanding and to adopt a global morality. Global values will help us to understand who we are. They will show us what our role is and what our duties are in a global society. Everyone can still reach for his individual dreams, but they will be in the context of a united global society. A global education will be a on-going and a dynamic process. It will help us to continuously improve our knowledge, our personality, our wisdom and spiritual perception of the world we live in. A global education will help to recognize the moment we are living in. The planet is in great danger and so is the fragmented society of our time. We have to seize this moment and make sure that we deal with the problems we are facing now. The only way to ensure the survival of mankind on this planet is to overcome the fear of the unpredictability of things to come. A global education will encourage us to adopt the right mindset for a global society and it will help us to rediscover the gift of human imagination. We have to be careful and use this gift wisely, so that we reverse some of the mistakes that we have made and find the proper solutions for it. What we need is a new generation of global citizens that overcome the differences that seperate us to bring us together like never before. A generation that is willing enough to put the common good before national and group interests. A generation that follows the path of a shared destiny which will lead us to a New World Order that replaces the chaos we are all living in today. A New World Order that recreates our harmony with nature for the highest good of all life. |
