e all live in a time of great danger. Everyday an estimated 100 animal species and plant species become extinct. This is only a optimistic estimate. Our ecosystem is slowly loosing its natural balance. How do we react? Most countries still treat this planet as an self-service store that is open around the clock.

However, we already feel the negative effects of the exploitation of our planet and its resources. The prices for commodities are rising at a scary pace. Every day far over 800 million people are starving. Everytime the prices for basic food are rising by only one percentage point, about 17 million more people are suffering from hunger. The average prices for rice, corn and wheat have risen over 180% in the last couple years alone. As a result civil unrest and riots in Haiti, Cameroon, Senegal, Mauritania and Ivory Coast have taken place. Prices for commodities will continue to rise and so will the number of people who will not be able to provide for themselves. Popular discontent is already spreading throughout the world. More and more nations fear for their public safety. They try to seal their markets off, freeze the prices of food and prohibit exports of food products. This way they hope to appease their population. In reality protectionism is a very short- sighted action. Worse, protectionism leads to even higher prices on the world market. Global reforms are necessary to stabilize the prices for food products on the global level.

WE HAVE TO ENSURE THE FUTURE FOR OUR CHILDREN!
Our current system of nation states is overwhelmed by the coming age of scarcity. Climate change, global production of ethanol and speculation do have an impact on rising prices for food. Nevertheless, global population growth does play a major part. Every year the global population is growing by a 100 million people. That means that every second there are 3 new human beings that need food to survive. It took humanity 2 million years to reach the 1 billion mark. It will only take 20 years to grow from currently over 6 billion people to 12 billion people on the planet.

Let's take India, the country with the second largest population on the planet, to show you how difficult it is for national governments to take care of their population. In order to keep the current average living standard (which is not very high, because far over 200 million people are currently suffering from malnutrition) in India, the Indish government has to built 25.000 new hospitals, 135.000 new schools, employ 380.000 new teachers and create 4 million new jobs
every new year!

We have to act fast and push national decision makers towards reforms. Reforms that lead to global governance. Only a united and strong global society, that is led by a willing and democratically elected global government, will be able to overcome the coming age of scarcity. We have to realize that we only have this planet to live on. We only have a limited amount of global natural resources at our disposal. These natural resources belong to humanity and not some rich minority groups. Therefore, we need globally binding laws, that enable us to create equal living conditions for every human being and that make a sustainable lifestyle mandatory to guarantee the survival of mankind. The common good of global society has to be put before the interest of nations, groups and individuals. We need a global taxation system to pay for research and development of new sustainable and affordable energy sources. We can't afford to wait until our old order of chaos collapses. We have to act now, because what we will do in the next couple years will either lead to the survival or the end of the human race. Let's make sure that the common good of the global society will prevail against the will of the selfish nation states. There is no First, Second or Third World anymore. There is only One World and One Society. We have to make sure to leave a habitable planet to our coming generations. We can only achieve this goal by finding a balance between global population growth and natural resources. Some coming reforms may seem harsh and they will affect our personal life, but they are necessary and are long overdue to remove the chaos and the danger we are all living in today. Our children and their children will be thankful for our courage to take responsibility for our past wrongdoing and for saving our future. We should not forget that we will never solve the problems with the same thinking that created all the problems we are dealing with now.

The global financial crisis is just the beginning. There is a lot more chaos coming. The chaos will help us to get rid of the corrupting elements in the body of humanity. This chaos will help us to rejuvenate and transform societies. We will create a new global society. A society that will free itself from poverty, hunger, sickness, greed and
self-destruction. A society that will cocreate a sustainable future equal to our vast potential.
