uman kind exists for only a few hundred thousand years. That is only a blink of an eye in evolution. Does that short amount of time give us the right to pollute our planet regardless of its consequences? According to the World Conservation Union 41,415 species on our planet are at threat and 39 % of it are in danger of extinction. We need to understand that if we continue to exploit and to destroy our environment that it will result in the death sentence of human kind on this planet, because we can't exist without our environment and not the other way around.

Scientist expect glaciers and polar icecaps to melt at a faster rate than they do now and
consequently the sea level to rise an estimated 15 to up to 95 centimeter in the upcoming 10 years if the current trend of pollution is not changed. Vast areas of land will be inundated within the next 50 to 100 years like the low lying Pacific Islands. Heavy populated countries like Bangladesh and island chains like the Maldives are doomed into extinction to catastrophic effect in terms of civilian lives. There are even worse scenarios that predict cities like New York and London to disappear into the Atlantic Ocean. A terrifying
228,000 humans already fell victim to floodings in Asia between 1987 and 1997. How many more human losses can we cope with until we decide to take action on a global level?

The IPCC ( Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change ), which brings together the best scientific specialists in the field around the world, tries really hard to establish common ground in order to organize a global research and set standards for a global reduction of anthropogenic or man made greenhouse gases. The scientists work day and night to establish climate models and forecasts. Reports are being published from the IPCC to inform the global public and move the governments towards reforms. But is it really enough? Countries hide behind inexplicit environmental laws which lack a global acting power to enforce it.
The hurricane seasons of the last couple years alone reveal the drastic climate change on this planet. The average number of hurricanes in a year worldwide went from 9,3 up to 14 within the last ten years. The destructive energy of  a hurricane increased a scary 70-80 % since 1945. The result of this radical increase of hurricane energy could be watched when hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 1995. Katrina was one of the deadliest and costliest hurricanes in history. Over 1,800 people lost their lives and ten thousands lost their homes and their near future. The hurricane created an estimated  $80 billion in damage, making it the costliest
natural disaster in U.S. history. This was also due to the fact that the levee system of the city was not designed for a hurricane of this category. However, scientist believe that hurricanes with such a destructive energy like Katrina will appear more often. What coastal cities will be next? Governments are overwhelmed and bureaucracy slows them down to coordinate actions with each other. A global warning system must be established with regional task forces that built levee systems and other protective barriers. This can only be implemented  and enforced  by a globally acting branch of a world government which could be called the Global Quality Assessment Center for Environment and Ecosysteme ( GQACEE ).

According to NASA the year 2005 was the warmest year that the global community experienced since the beginning of weather recording in 1861. Weather models show that deserts will expand dramatically and we will experience a shortage of drinking water around the globe. Harvests will be destroyed around the world and the prices for food will skyrocket. The rise in cost for basic food is already felt around the globe.
There is a worst case scenario, the ultimate end for most living beings on earth. Scientist discovered that there is a huge natural deposit of methane clathrates below 2000 meter depth in the oceans. Methane clathrate is a solid form of water that contains a large amount of methane and carbon within its crystal or icy structure. There is the ever-present danger that if the warming up of the oceans continues that these methane clathrates would melt and fall apart. These clathrates would turn into methane gas and carbon dioxide. There would be a huge blow out of these gases around the
globe. It is estimated that approximately up to 10,000 billion tons of methane gas could escape into the atmosphere. You have to consider that each methane molecule is 30 times stronger in creating the greenhouse effect than one carbon dioxide molecule. This would result in a immediate global warming of up to 8 degree Celsius. Armageddon would descend upon us.

The parallel between such a natural disaster and the situation that our global community has to face is more than apparent. Every climate model that exist predicts that the global temperature will rise and more extreme global weather phenomena like hurricanes, hailstorms, mudslides, floodings and forest fires will appear. It is up to humanity if we will suffer from minor climate changes or if apocalyptic natural disasters will wipe out humanity from the face of this planet forever.

Let's take a look of possible steps that could be made towards a well balanced global environment that would ensure the future for our children.

The emissions of anthropogenic green house gases will be regulated by a global binding law that is going to be enforced by a global acting branch of world government like the GQACEE. Companies around the globe will get ecological certificates if they meet their annual emission output standard. Heavy fines have to be paid and the global consumer will avoid products of companies that don't meet the requirements for ecological production. Moreover, a whole new industry will develop that invests in the recovery of the global ecosystem.

The Global Control Center for Clean and Renewable Energy ( GCCCRE ) will invest into new and clean energy sources like hydrogen energy, solar energy and nano energy. A global environmental tax is introduced for all global citizens and all companies. The tax income will be used  to finance the research and the development of  new and clean energy sources that will be available all over the globe. Economical growth will be accompanied by a energy-saving global industrial community that will rely more and more on clean and renewable energy sources. Industries that still rely on fossil fuels will be heavily taxed and can't compete with the industries that consider ecological production. Every global citizen will learn to reduce his personal carbon footprint and will be financially rewarded if he does so. This is just a small glimpse of what possible actions need to be taken to reduce and end our dependence on fossil fuels.

Climate change threatens all of us. We need to act right now on a global level with a global acting government before it is too late. We live on and depend on this planet. We don't have much time left to act and make sure that our environment recovers to guarantee the survival of mankind. We are all part of Mother Nature and not its master.
